Early Career Researcher Workshop 2018 - 'Sustainable Futures'
SAVE THE DATE: 9 - 12 October 2018
This workshop aims to address the importance and necessity of innovative research and collaboration in paving a route towards a sustainable and resilient future for generations to come. Tackling climate change, the impact of industrial growth and disparate poverty, are key actions featured in the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals which seeks to ‘promote prosperity while protecting the planet’. This workshop will showcase how U21’s network of Early Career Researchers are contributing to making our futures sustainable though sessions promoting knowledge exchange and skills-sharing, networking and cross-disciplinary partnerships. There will also be a workshop session concentrating on how U21 can help sustain the futures of its own network of ECRs.
We are in the process of finalising the programme; more information to be uploaded soon.
Early career academics from all disciplines are welcome to join. They should have been awarded their PhD within the last 8 years; this definition is flexible with each university having the discretion to nominate ECRs who fall outside this definition, due to an atypical career path, including those who have:
- started the research-intensive component of their career later
- had career breaks
- spent time in industry
Each U21 member university may nominate up to 7 researchers to attend the workshop, four nominations per member will be guaranteed, with three reserve nominations (to be confirmed at a later date should spaces become available). To be eligible for the workshop researchers must have been awarded their PhD and have no more than 8 years post-PhD experience (exceptions are noted on the nomination form).
Workshop costs are covered by U21, however each U21 member must be willing to cover the travel and accommodation costs for all nominated researchers. Colleagues in Shanghai are working to secure hotel accommodation for all delegates - approximate costings will be uploaded soon.
