U21:Discover - August 2016
In the Network News section, we call for nominations for the 2017 Gilbert Medal and U21 Awards and congratulate the winners 2016 winners who received their awards during the U21 Annual Network Meetings in Singapore. We also have updates on the publication of the 2016 edition of the Universitas 21 Ranking of National Higher Education Systems, as well as updates and reports from across the network.
The Educational Innovation round-up includes a report from this year's Deans of Education meeting held in Washington, DC as well as news of final developments of the new U21 SOC and EI Conference at the University of Birmingham.
Meanwhile, the Researcher Engagement articles feature reports from the recent RE Meetings in Maryland as well as an update on the Steering Committee.
The Student Experience pages report on the 2016 Student Mobility Meeting held in Denver as well as the Student Leaders Network meeting which took place at the University of Connecticut. The SE section also includes a feature from UNSW Australia PVC-International Fiona Docherty on the impact of U21 on the student community across the network and the difference we can all make – all whilst wearing pyjamas!
U21:Discover also features a summary of updates from the Health Sciences Group including a report from the Global Learning Partnership in Nepal, the Sustainable Development Conference held at the University of Nottingham and the inaugural U21 Librarians Group Summit which took place at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
The newsletter also features a back-page interview with the new Chair of the Senior Leaders’ Group, Professor Jenny Dixon of the University of Auckland, and an ‘Issues for All’ article from the President of Hong Kong University, Professor Peter Mathieson, about rankings being only one measure of success. The newsletter also features the latest updates on personnel changes within the network and information on forthcoming U21 events.
