Global Research

We run a suite of member-led projects and programmes that enrich research outcomes through access to our international network, open dialogue and enriching workshops and training programmes.

We enable our members to collaborate, exchange knowledge and enhance their capacity to engage with their own wider communities and beyond.

Researcher Engagement

Supporting the development of innovative international opportunities for emerging researchers at postgraduate, doctoral and post-doctoral levels as well as early and mid-career researchers.

The U21 Early Career Researcher workshop aims to enhance international networking and encourages the development of interdisciplinary collaborative research for those in the early stages of their career. The most recent in 2024 focused on Inclusive Energy Transitions.

Research Development

Facilitating the development of international research collaboration, enhancing research impact and promoting best practice in research integrity across the network.

We are developing a network-wide grand challenge research project on the topic of climate change with collaboration from across all of our members.

Research Partnerships

We partner with the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA). This is a network of universities from different countries and different historical backgrounds, but with a common vision. ARUA aims to enhance research and graduate training in member universities.

To date, our partnership includes:

  • A funding round supporting multidisciplinary ECR-led projects with five projects funded focused on sustainability.

Global Research

The Global Research Steering Group oversees the research activities delivered through U21 and alongside this, a number of other groups across our member institutions focusing on generating impact from collaborative research.
