From my point of view, being a Global Citizen means demonstrating respect for our environment, raising our voices against the problems in our world, feeling a sense of responsibility and working all together to create a better world.
The U21 Global Citizens programme not only taught me insightful information about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) but also helped me to learn the diversity of leadership, gain awareness of global issues. Also, meeting with students who have wide-ranging ideas from all over the world was one of my favourite things about this programme.
With global warming increasing, diminishing water sources and the rise of natural disasters, I believe SDG 13 is so crucial for ensuring a sustainable future. Because of it, I chose SDG 13- Climate Action. Due to the increase in urbanisation, green spaces are decreasing at the same time, and unfortunately, carbon emission levels are increasing as well. The other reason I chose this goal was the importance of green spaces in our world. It is disheartening to see that most of the time, people don’t value green spaces. However, they are one of the most important things for reducing carbon emissions.
During my time at the U21 Global Citizens programme, I learnt that all of the SDGs are connected with each other, and everything is in our hands. I truly believe that everyone must come together for a sustainable world. With small steps, we can create big and important changes for a better future.”
