Litzy Cruz-Otero – Tecnológico de Monterrey

“Small actions, big impact—every choice we make can shape a better world.” This is what I discovered during the U21 Global Citizens program. Before joining, I was aware of global challenges and the Sustainable Development Goals, but I didn’t know how to translate that awareness into concrete steps or meaningful initiatives. The program guided me to see how my own actions, however small, can contribute to real change when combined with the efforts of others.

During the program, I focused on SDG 4 – Quality Education, because I believe that access to inclusive, high-quality education is the key to creating equality and opportunity. I often wondered, what would happen if everyone had the chance to access quality education? This question guided my reflections throughout the program and helped me see that education not only empowers individuals but also opens the door to addressing other global challenges. Learning equips people to tackle issues in their communities and beyond, creating a ripple effect of positive change.

One of my favorite aspects was collaborating with students from all over the world. Listening to their experiences, understanding different perspectives, and exchanging ideas showed me that global citizenship is not only about taking action but also about connecting, learning, and growing together in ways that truly make a difference.”

Being part of this program reminded me that global citizenship starts with curiosity, empathy, and the willingness to act. It is about understanding that our actions are connected to a bigger picture, and together, we can contribute to a more inclusive, sustainable, and hopeful world.
