The next meeting in Europe of Mobility Colleagues will be 20-21 August 2020 at the University of Glasgow. All U21 partners are welcome to attend this meeting. Given the changing international HE climate, this meeting will not only cover Europe-specific issues but will have a global focus.
Message to members regarding COVID-19 Contingency Planning
While it may seem premature in these rapidly changing times to be making plans, it will be increasingly important to be able to share crisis management experiences and seek advice from colleagues sharing similar challenges. Therefore, we have decided to plan for our meeting as in previous years, albeit with some different options available.
Whilst August is some months away, the constantly evolving COVID-19 outbreak means that none of us can know what the situation will be later in the year. We are mindful primarily of protecting the health and wellbeing of our community and we also recognise that longer-term restrictions on travel by universities or governments could still impact on our plans. As such a face-to-face meeting may be optimistic, but we are actively making contingency plans.
Face-to-Face Meeting Scenario: If all or the majority of European U21 members are able to travel to Scotland, a face-to-face meeting can continue as in previous years. For any individual members unable to join, digital connection will be provided.
Online Scenario: If travel to/from the UK remains problematic, and/or members are unable to leave their universities during the time specified, the meeting will move online. Over the 1.5 days allocated, some focused videoconferences will be scheduled on the key agenda items. U21 will support members to share online resources, questions and advice before, during and after the synchronous events.
Please therefore hold 20-21 August 2020 in your diary for either a face-to-face meeting in Glasgow or an online event.
We will work closely with our members and on the advice of government and health advice to determine closer to the time whether the event can proceed. We expect to provide our next update after Easter and hope very much that we will be seeing you in Glasgow later this year.
Thank you in advance for you understanding and cooperation.
