7 U21 Members Make The Top 20 In The QS Sustainability Rankings

Seven outstanding universities belonging to the U21 network have been included in the global Top 20 of the QS Sustainability Rankings 2022.  Running for the first time, these rankings are focused on the social and environmental sustainability performance in higher education institutions.

As the world of higher education thinks deeply about what it can do to help combat the global climate crisis, universities are innovating to make everything from their research directions to their campuses greener.

Coming into the Top 20 of the best ranked universities globally, U21 members were recognised:

4 - The University of Edinburgh, UK

=5 - The University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney), Australia

=5 - The University of Sydney, Australia

10 - The University of Auckland, New Zealand

  12 - Lund University, Sweden

13 - University of Glasgow, UK

14 - University of California, Davis, United States

Featuring 700 universities, the rankings used a methodology made up of various indicators to show an institution's ability to tackle the world's greatest environmental, social and governance challenges. It includes environmental sustainability measures - including sustainable education, research and institutions and social impact measures such as equality, knowledge exchange, educational impact, employability and quality of life.

As a network, U21 are committed to aims in support of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, and celebrate the bold steps our members are taking in pursuing greener solutions.
