Professor Clarke work has influenced school systems and teachers throughout Australia, the USA, Canada, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Singapore, China, Japan, Malaysia and the Federated States of Micronesia.

Professor Clarke consistently championed the work of Universitas 21 by establishing and sustaining the network’s Deans of Education annual meetings, and the Forum of International Network in Education (FINE).  The FINE group was founded by Professor Clarke, and continues to mentor and support doctoral students and emerging researchers in education within the Universitas 21 member universities.

In December 2019 U21 presented Professor Clarke with an honorary U21 Award for his impact on the Internationalisation of Higher Education. Nominating him for this award his colleagues across the U21 network noted. 'In the past 12 months, Professor Clarke has demonstrated his tenacity and optimistic outlook on life and its meaning while fighting against a critical illness.  He has reminded us all about the importance of our work on the future of our world.  To all of us, he has been an inspiration'.

U21 passes on sincere sympathies to the family, colleagues and students of Professor Clarke.
