We are pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Christian Schwarzenegger as our next Provost following an extensive international search. He will formally assume the role on 1 August 2026, succeeding Professor Jenny Dixon, who has guided the network with distinction as Provost over the past five years.

Professor Schwarzenegger is an accomplished higher education leader with extensive experience in university governance, global partnerships, open science policy, and institutional transformation. He joins U21 from the University of Zurich, where he has served as Vice President for Faculty Affairs and Scientific Information since 2014. In this position he has led human resources for more than 10,000 employees and 750 professors, the University Library and Open Science Services, legal affairs, data protection and leadership development. He is also a long-standing Professor of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and Criminology.

Professor Schwarzenegger has worked extensively across Europe, Asia Pacific and North America. He led the University of Zurich’s admission into U21 in 2017 and represented the institution at AGMs and Senior Leaders’ Meetings, co-creating the strategic direction for the 2020 AGM.
