Overview

The U21 Nature Positive Coalition brings together researchers and institutions from across the globe to help shape the future of nature monitoring and restoration.

The project, led by The University of Sydney and The University of Glasgow under the Universitas 21 banner, brings together researchers from across the global university network to work across ecological, legal, financial, and social disciplines.

Working in partnership with the Nature Positive Initiative, the coalition is the first university-led collaboration to independently assess the newly developed ‘State of Nature’ metrics across multiple disciplines. The metrics are currently being piloted internationally to provide a common language and structure for the measurement of nature across global financial frameworks such as the Taskforce for Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

The U21 Nature Positive Coalition aims to determine if the ‘State of Nature’ metrics are usable, interpretable, and defensible when implemented by real-world actors. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, the project aims to develop practical, science-based tools that empower nature stewards, inform policymaking and investment, and help organisations accurately measure and improve their impact on nature.
