University of Connecticut

Established as an agricultural school in 1881, the University of Connecticut (UConn) has since grown into one of the nation’s top-tier public research institutions. By 1939, it had evolved into a major Ph.D. granting university. Today—with over 32,00 students, 10,000 faculty and staff members, and more than 270,000 alumni—it is recognized for its diverse research portfolio and key areas of strength including healthcare, additive manufacturing, education, environmental sciences, human rights, linguistics, psychology and visual arts. The university has more than 100 research centers and institutes that serve UConn’s teaching, research, diversity, and outreach missions.

Ranked by US News & World Report amongst the top 25 public universities in the Unites States, UConn has Land and Sea grants, and is a Space Grant Consortium institution—lauded for the breadth and the range of its world-class research and teaching across an array of disciplines.

The University has 14 schools and colleges, awards 8 undergraduate degrees in 119 majors, 17 graduate degrees and 6 professional degrees. The University is composed of the main campus in Storrs; four regional campuses in Avery Point, Hartford, Stamford, and Waterbury; UConn Health in Farmington; and the Graduate Business Learning Center, School of Law and School of Social Work in Hartford.

As the State of Connecticut’s flagship University, UConn’s mission is to serve the local community and state, but increasingly, its footprint has extended internationally, as faculty, students and staff actively engage with global partners on study exchanges, collaborative research, teaching, and specialized training programs. By articulating innovation, leadership, global engagement and diversity as its four interdependent core values in its Academic Vision, UConn recognizes the strategic importance of building sustainable networks with partners around the world and producing global citizens with multicultural awareness and respect—inspiring the University community to look beyond our campus and strive to build a more equitable, just and sustainable world.
